Alfred Stieglitz Photography

Alfred Stieglitz was very much well know for his photography in the 20th century. Stieglitz wanted to get recognition for his pictures but putting the same effects that was in fine art in his pictures. He was very fascinated by the rise of American Power. It is safe to say that the American Industry was his inspiration for his photos. One of his well known photos is cold  Winter, Fifth Avenue which was taken in 1892. For this one picture he waited for 3 ours in a snowstorm on fifth avenue for the perfect picture. He seems like he was a perfectionist when it came to his photography. He definitely used what was going on around that time period for his inspiration for his pictures.

Metropolitan Museum Of Art

One piece of Renaissance artwork that's shown at this museum is titled "Archangel Gabriel; The Virgin Annunciate" painted by Gerard David. This artwork is a painting with oil paint, painted in 1510. With first looks at this painting, without look at the title I automatically felt that it was showing something that had to do with the word virgin. When I see the color white I automatically think about something that is pure. The color white now is still shown like in weddings to symbolize pureness. The dove in this painting also shows peace.
Another piece of artwork that is shown is title :"The Annunciation of the Death of The Virgin" painted by Samuel van Hoogstraten. This artwork was painted with oil in 1670. In this painting the Virgin Mary is shown and there is an angel behind her. With the word "Annunciation" meaning to announce, it seems like Mary is announcing her death to the angel behind her.

Elements and Principles of Art

Artist’s use many ways to unify their artwork.  One way they unify their work is through colors and shapes. Different colors and shapes create diversity and variety. Different patterns create structure throughout all artwork. Color repetition is another way that artist unify their work. Asymmetrical balance in any artwork means that it is equal on both sides. So both sides of the artwork match up with each other if the artwork was folded in half. When something in a piece of artwork is bigger than everything else in the piece than usually that means that the artist was trying to emphasize that one part of the artwork. Usually when something is emphasizing in an artwork, it draws more attention to that one particular part of the art piece. Or when the artist wants the main focus to be on one particular thing they will usually put it in the center of the artwork. For example the artwork  “The Scream” that was done in 1893 the man is in the center of the painting and that is the main focus point.

Hermon Atkins MacNeil, Sun Vow

When I first saw this art piece I immediately thought about the success of winning a war. The writers response made me understand the appearance of the child in this art piece. It then made me think about the future and how the future rest in the hands of future generations to come. They are soon going to make decisions for our country.
